Fresh or foul?(Part 2) How significant are smells?

Updated: Mar 11, 2019

Almost at The Wahls Protocol Seminar and Retreat - Iowa Cornfields

Looking out the train window at the farmland of Iowa, I can imagine the air is fresh! This is not the case inside our homes necessarily nowadays. Since I made the change to cleaner naturally scented, or non scented, home products there has been more research published on the dangers of synthetically scented consumer goods.

Of particular interest was an article by Carol Potera, in Environmental Health Perspectives in January 2011 (Vol 119, Number 1) (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3018511) about research undertaken by Anne Steinemann and colleagues, at the University of Washington, Seattle into volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by common household products. “They tested 25 air fresheners, laundry detergents, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, disinfectants, dish detergents, all-purpose cleaners, soaps, hand sanitizers, lotions, deodorants, and shampoos. … Each product emitted 1-8 toxic or hazardous chemicals, and close to half (44%) generated at least 1 of 24 carcinogenic hazardous air pollutants”.

By making the switch to the safer, clean products we promote on our website you can be assured the manufacturer avoids over 3000 potentially harmful ingredients. When you read the product labels you will see a list of scientific names, but that is because the manufacturer uses the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients, INCI system for labelling and adheres to transparency in labelling.

For over 25 years the company whose products we use, has been committed to expertly crafting clean, effective and innovative products, including the first ever EWG Verified Oral Care range comprising a toothpaste and mouth rinse, I encourage you to follow the link to explore this personal care product range or home care range.
